Lucas Bonafede, MD

Dr. Lucas Bonafede is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist at Fraser Eye Care Center. He specializes in Anterior Segment and Cataract Surgeries, Refractive Surgery, Pediatric Ophthalmology, and Strabismus.

Dr. Bonafede has trained at some of the top academic and medical institutions in the world. After earning his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, he attended the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was awarded the Charles A. Oliver Memorial Prize, an award given to a single medical student for outstanding performance in the field of ophthalmology. Dr. Bonafede completed his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital, where he trained under some of the world’s best ophthalmologists to hone his clinical and surgical skills. He continued his training with a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Duke University.

Dr. Bonafede is an active member of the ophthalmology community and multiple ophthalmic societies. He has published numerous research articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters in ophthalmology texts, and has presented at national conferences. Dr. Bonafede is an active investigator in numerous clinical trials.

Dr. Bonafede was born and raised in Argentina and is a native Spanish speaker. He and his family moved to the metro Detroit area during his childhood and have called this community home since. He is excited for the opportunity to provide eye care for his community. Dr. Bonafede joined Fraser Eye Care in 2020 and has been a valued member as a clinician and surgeon. He created the Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus service at Fraser Eye Care. Furthermore, he provides personalized and compassionate care to patients of all ages and a wide array of ophthalmic conditions.
