Injectable dermal fillers can fulfill a variety of cosmetic goals, from smoothing away facial wrinkles and contouring the face to giving lips a fuller look. Dermal fillers are a great way to rejuvenate your appearance without surgery or downtime.
At Fraser Eye Care Center, we offer a full range of cosmetic treatments and dermal fillers, including Restylane®, JUVÉDERM®, and Voluma™. Our team of dermal filler experts includes our Aesthetic Registered Nurse, as well as Dr. Scott Barton, Dr. Daniel Lin, who are board-certified ophthalmologists with specialty training in oculoplastic surgery. FDA-approved dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® are made of hyaluronic acid-based formulas. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that plumps and hydrates skin. Hyaluronic acid fillers, sometimes called soft tissue fillers, can also stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen, which helps give skin a firm, youthful appearance. Many formulas also contain lidocaine, which is an anesthetic ingredient that can reduce any discomfort from the injection. When administered by an experienced provider, injectable fillers can instantly restore lost volume and soften the appearance of fine lines with long-lasting results. Many patients combine dermal filler treatments with BOTOX® for comprehensive non-surgical rejuvenation.
If you have always wanted fuller lips, or if your lips have become thinner with age, dermal fillers can help you achieve a perfect pout. Fillers such as JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA™ and Restylane® Kysse are specially formulated to treat thin lips. Lip fillers can deliver full, soft lips while also diminishing the appearance of lip lines or fine wrinkles around the lips.
As we age, our body’s production of collagen slows down and our natural facial fat can shift; this volume loss can result in a hollow or sagging look in the mid-face area. Cheek enhancement with dermal fillers can restore lost volume and give the appearance of high cheekbones.
Dark circles under the eyes may be due to deep tear troughs. The tear trough, or nasojugal groove, is the area underneath the inner corner of the eye that extends toward the cheek. A hollow tear trough can make eyes look tired and create dark circles that do not improve with sleep or under eye creams. Dermal filler injections can correct a deep tear trough, but it is important to seek treatment from a qualified and experienced provider who understands the delicate eye area. Nasolabial folds, sometimes called “parentheses” lines or smile lines, are the lines that run from the outer edges of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Nasolabial folds are natural, but when they deepen with aging it can contribute to a tired or prematurely aged look. Dermal fillers can improve the look of nasolabial folds for a refreshed appearance.
Dermal filler treatments are quick, in-office procedures that require minimal preparation. You can reduce the likelihood of post-injection bruising by avoiding alcohol, ibuprofen, and aspirin in the days leading up to your dermal filler appointment.
The area to be treated will be cleansed and you may be offered a topical anesthetic to numb the skin. Your provider will discuss your goals in order to choose the right dermal filler for you. The filler will be carefully injected with a fine needle.
There is no downtime needed after dermal filler treatment and patients typically resume regular activities right away, although you may be advised to avoid strenuous activities for a few hours. Common side effects such as mild bruising, swelling, and tenderness at the injection site are temporary.1
You will notice results right away, but optimal results may be most apparent once any post-injection swelling subsides. Dermal filler results are not permanent and your results may vary depending on the amount and type of filler used; typically results last 6 to 9 months. You can increase the longevity of your results with a good skin care routine.
